Working with Borders College Students Association

Lottie Aither, an NC Business Management student from Innerleithen, shares with us her experience of completing her work placement with Borders College Students’ Association.

Going into a work placement can seem quite tedious for some students, especially an admin placement! I was looking at various businesses and organisations to work with and finally decided to spend my time with Borders College Students’ Association.

The Association works to support and represent all students at college. They get involved in all aspects of the student experience, including helping students put on events, and attending college committees and community meetings to represent the student voice.

My experience at the Students’ Association was really different to other offices I have worked at. My tasks were varied and diverse, which was really interesting for me. One week I was taking minutes in meetings, the next week I was redesigning the Students’ Association noticeboards, and the week after, I was developing a training session for the incoming student officers, which I hope to deliver during the summer. Although I was still doing admin, it didn’t feel like it, because of the all the interesting projects I was working on.

The Students’ Association is a great team to work for. They are very supportive, welcoming and friendly. Just what a Students’ Association should be! I would definitely recommend doing your work placement with them. Through my time with them, I have gained a lot of confidence working in an office setting.
