Whenever you experience negative thoughts such as ‘I’m never going to pass’ or, ‘This is too difficult’ be aware that this type of self-talk is common in stressful situations. Try to change your negative self-talk into more positive statements. Just think about it – if your best friend told you they were having negative thoughts, what you would you say to them to make them feel better?
Practice giving yourself the same advice. Sometimes it’s useful to have some positive phrases that you can repeat as you walk into the exam room. Make them your mantra. Sounds silly, but it works! In fact, many of the most successful athletes in the world use positive self-statements before and during competition.
